Microblading (aka Hairstroke)
A very natural looking brow can be achieved using a hand-held tool, creating many hair-like impressions by implanting pigment strokes under the skin. Microblading is meant to replace individual hairs, not to fill your brows to look like they're filled in with pencil or shadow. Initially brows will appear darker than the desired result, however, this is intended as they fade during the healing process resulting in natural, fuller more natural looking brows.
Pros: Microbladed brows look very natural. If done by an experienced professional, each stroke looks like real hair.
Cons: Microbladed brows are the least permanent of all Permanent Makeup because of the shallow depth we penetrate the pigment under the skin. They therefore require more frequent touch ups than other techniques. Typically clients come back between 8-12 months for a colour boost. Microblading is less effective on oily/combination skin types than other methods.
Who is it best for:
Microblading is perfect for someone who:
- has thin or patchy brows
- wants a subtle shape enhancement
- doesn’t regularly fill in their brows
Ombre Powder Fill
The ombré powder fill method is more like a traditional tattoo, and involves the application of thousands of tiny dots of pigment, inserted into the skin, gradually building up a colour and defined shape.
Pros: Ombre powder fill brows use a more traditional tattooing method, with longer lasting results, and works with most skin types, including oily or combination skin. Clients come back for colour boosts closer to the 12-18month mark. The brow is also fuller and more defined or dramatic than with the hairstroke method.
Cons: Because this method has been around for a long time, it doesn't have the best reputation. Many people are fearful of this method looking unnatural, because it does create a more defined, solid look than microblading alone. But today's powder fill permanent brows are waaaaaaay more natural looking than their 1985 predecessors. In fact, ombre fill brows can be made to look very natural, by not saturating the desired brow shape 100% with pigment and allowing for a defined yet soft/non solid look.
Who is it best for: If you are someone with oily or combination skin, or who fills in your brows regularly with pencil or shadow, then this is the method for you! It mimics the look of filled in brows, without all the effort each morning.
Combination Brows
Remember when I said up above that there is no BEST method? It's true, it's true, but between you and me, the hybrid brow is my favourite. It's pretty much exactly what it sounds like: a combination of microblading and powder fill.
Pros: The combination of microbladed hair strokes and a powder fill gives an incredibly natural looking brow. It's a bit more defined and filled in than just straight microbladed brows, and a bit less solid and dramatic than the ombre powder fill.
Cons: I’m not sure there is one!
Who is it best for: I really love this technique for everyone to be honest. All brows are customized specifically for each individual client based on your desired look, skin type, colouring, bone structure etc. There are no two clients with the same brow design.

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT:
Everybody’s eyebrow shape is different and there is no one shape that fits all. If you have a particular brow shape that you love, please come to your appointment with your brows down (e.g. stencilled). Any necessary adjustments will be made when measuring. However, if you are unsure about shape, the proper guidelines will be followed to determine the best eyebrow shape for you. When you are completely happy and approve the shape and colour, microblading will begin.
- Please avoid caffine 24 hours prior your appointment
- We recommend that you purchase Emla cream from your local chemist and apply 1 hour prior your service to help make the service more comfortable, this is a pre-numbing agent and is optional as we will also apply numbing agents.
- Please avoid alcohol, paracetamol and / or ibuprofen 24 hours prior to your appointment
- Eyebrow waxing should be done at least two days before your appointment
- Stop using any Retin A, AHA or Actives one week prior your appointment
- If you are taking Roaccutane you will need to wait at least six months after finishing your treatment before you will be able to have microblading
- Please do not schedule your appointment before an important event / function / holiday as brows will need 14 days to heal
- No Botox treatments should be done three weeks prior or four weeks after microblading
- No chemical peels two months prior to or after treatment (this will cause brows to peel and fade quicker)
POST PROCEDURE:
Directly after treatment, brows may appear dark and intense, you may also have slight redness around the area and sometimes swelling, this is all completely normal. As the brows heal over the next couple of days you will notice a crust forming over the treated area. Please avoid scratching or picking at the crust as this is all part of the process and needs to flake off naturally.
It is very important that you keep the treated area clean and dry for the following 14 days to allow the pigment to settle into the skin.
- No make-up / skincare products should be applied directly on the brows or surrounding area during the healing process
- Avoid wetting eyebrows, take extra care when showering and if the brows do become wet just pat them dry (do not rub)
- Avoid sauna / steam rooms / sunbathing / swimming / etc. during the healing process
- Do not touch, rub, pick or scratch your brows following treatment or during the healing process
- Avoid excess sun exposure as this can cause the pigment to fade and can affect the healing process
Follow-up appointments are needed between 4 – 6 weeks after the first session. During this session any adjustments will be made to pigment colour, brow thickness and shape. Additional touch-ups are recommended every 12 months depending on how well the pigment is retained, skin type (normal, oil, dry) and lifestyle.
Microblading is not implanted into the deeper levels of the skin like traditional tattooing, so the area will naturally fade overtime. Typically results can last up to 2 years, but each person is different and some will retain pigment better than others. Oily skin will require a touch-up every 6 months to retain the shape and colour.
Sun exposure, laser treatments, use of AHA and Glycolic Acid products may cause brows to fade faster. For these reasons no guarantees can be made on the final results.
Please note that you must be 18 years or older to have microblading.
